Russia has fined Telegram 35 million roubles, or about $432,366, for not removing content that authorities say is banned.
The news was reported by Interfax on Monday.
Russian officials have often criticized Telegram, which is one of the country’s most widely used messaging apps. They say the platform is being used to spread illegal and extremist content.
Telegram has denied the accusation. The company also claimed that Russia is trying to slow down its services to push users toward a state-backed messaging app called MAX.
