Discord is rolling out new safety features for parents and guardians through its Family Center, offering more control over teens’ online activity.

The update adds tools that let guardians manage sensitive content filters, privacy options, and who can send direct messages to their teens.

One of the biggest changes is the new Social Permissions settings, which allow guardians to decide whether their teens can receive DMs only from friends or from anyone in the same servers. Despite these new controls, Discord assures teens that parents still can’t read the actual content of their messages, keeping their private conversations secure.

The platform is also adding an option for teens to notify their parents or guardians when they report someone, although the specific details of the report will stay private. In addition, the Family Center’s activity summary will now include more data, such as total purchases, total call minutes, and the top users and servers their teen interacts with over seven days. Teens can view the same information their guardians see, promoting transparency while maintaining privacy.
