Google has introduced a major upgrade to Gemini’s Deep Research feature, allowing it to access your emails and documents to deliver more detailed and personalized results.

The company says this was one of the most requested additions, designed to make Gemini better at handling complex research tasks rather than just answering simple questions.

When you start a Deep Research query, Gemini first creates a multi-step plan before searching the web and your connected data to build a complete research report. You can then ask it to refine the results, add more information, or even export the entire report to a Google Doc or an AI-generated podcast.

Google explains that this new Workspace integration allows Gemini to analyze relevant materials like brainstorming documents, project plans, and email threads. For instance, you could ask Gemini to create a market analysis or a competitor report that combines public web data with your internal files, spreadsheets, and chats.

Users can choose which sources Gemini can access — including Google Search, Gmail, Drive, and Chat — when starting a Deep Research session. This means the AI can use emails, documents, slides, spreadsheets, PDFs, and chat logs for added context. Currently, the feature is available only on desktop, but Google plans to roll it out to mobile devices in the coming days.
