Two groups described by Italian media as pro-Russian hacktivists, NoName057(16) and Z-Pentest, have claimed responsibility for cyberattacks that disrupted refrigeration systems at supermarkets across Europe.
The claim appeared in a video reported by Rai News and ANSA on November 4. The groups said they targeted Danfoss and Dixell refrigeration equipment and used built-in systems rather than malware.
The video also threatened to extend attacks to water supplies, power plants, industrial facilities and food-storage sites. The claim has not been independently verified, and authorities have not publicly attributed the supermarket attacks to either group.
The November 2 wave disrupted refrigeration at supermarket chains including Carrefour and Delhaize in Belgium and ICA and Coop in Sweden, forcing retailers to discard spoiled food, Reuters reported. After the incidents, some European operators began upgrading refrigeration systems, as Abijita reported.
The wider sequence also included refrigeration cyberattacks affecting UK meat suppliers. Investigators have not publicly established whether the supermarket and UK supplier incidents share an operator.
