Grok Bot, the AI assistant developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, can now make phone calls to US businesses on behalf of users, helping them handle tasks such as negotiating bills, booking appointments and canceling subscriptions.
The feature, which Musk first previewed on October 25, began rolling out more broadly in early November. Users can ask Grok Bot to call a business, explain their request and handle the conversation. The assistant then provides a transcript and summary of the call.
In one demonstration shared by AI creator Peter Yang, Grok Bot called Comcast to negotiate a lower internet bill. After navigating the phone menu, declining several upsells and referencing a competing provider’s offer, the assistant reduced Yang’s monthly bill from $84 to $45. The call lasted about 25 minutes, and Grok Bot requested Yang’s approval before accepting the final terms.
Other users have reported using the feature to recover a $100 Verizon Fios gift card, arrange a same-day medical appointment and cancel subscriptions. However, some businesses have refused to complete account changes when they realized they were speaking with an AI assistant.
During calls, users can follow a live transcript and provide information when the assistant needs help, such as account details or verification codes. The interface also includes options to take over or end a call.
Grok Bot must identify itself as a virtual assistant calling on the user’s behalf, and calls may be recorded. The feature is currently limited to US numbers and is rolling out to eligible users, with broader availability still being clarified.

The launch expands Grok Bot’s ability to handle real-world tasks beyond online research and shopping. Its phone-call capabilities could help users avoid lengthy hold times and routine customer-service conversations, although some businesses may still require customers to speak with a human directly.
