Microsoft has officially rolled out a redesigned Start menu for Windows 11 testers in the Dev Channel, introducing a scrollable layout, improved app organization, and greater customization.
The update, initially teased in April and confirmed in May, allows users to try the new interface hands-on for the first time.
The refreshed Start menu brings two new views: Category, which groups apps by function, and Grid, which arranges them alphabetically. Users can also disable the “Recommended” section to display more apps. Microsoft has scaled the Start menu based on screen size, with larger devices showing up to 8 columns of pinned apps and 6 recommendations, while smaller screens will see a more compact layout.
Additional updates include a Phone Link toggle built directly into the Start menu, customizable lock screen widgets, and a new Gamepad PIN unlock feature, letting users sign in with a controller, aimed at improving Windows usability on handheld gaming devices like the ROG Ally.
