OpenAI has reached a major financial milestone, surpassing $10 billion in annual recurring revenue, nearly doubling last year’s $5.5 billion, according to a spokesperson speaking to CNBC.
The surge in revenue is fueled by strong demand for its AI-powered offerings, including ChatGPT, business subscriptions, and its widely used API platform.
The company now serves over 500 million weekly active users and 3 million paying business customers, underscoring ChatGPT’s global impact just two and a half years after its launch. OpenAI is aiming even higher, with a long-term target of $125 billion in revenue by 2029.
Despite its success, OpenAI faces financial pressure to scale quickly, as it invests heavily in AI research, infrastructure, and talent acquisition. While the company hasn’t revealed its operating expenses or profitability, its rapid growth signals increasing dominance in the generative AI space.
