Meta is bringing group chats to its Threads app, letting users message multiple friends in shared conversations instead of sending separate DMs.
Threads users can now start a new message and add up to 50 people who follow their account. Each chat can be given a custom name, making it easier to organize by topic or participants, much like Facebook Messenger’s group messaging feature.

The rollout is happening globally, except in the UK and Australia for now. Meta spokesperson Alec Booker told The Verge that the company is working to expand availability to those regions “as quickly as possible.”
Future updates will introduce better inbox management tools and an option to invite users to group chats through shareable links, making it easier to bring people into conversations.
The launch of group messaging also coincides with Threads expanding its messaging features in the EU, adding support for both individual and group chats in the coming days.
