Google is taking its AI filmmaking tool Flow to the next level, making AI-generated videos look even more realistic and harder to distinguish from real footage.

Announced on Wednesday, the latest Flow update allows users to fine-tune shadows and lighting in their AI-generated videos. These expanded editing features come as part of the Veo 3.1 update, which Google says produces more accurate and visually coherent videos based on the input images provided as prompts.

Flow users can now also create videos with audio, thanks to several new capabilities. A feature called “Ingredients to Video” lets users generate videos with sound using three reference images. Another, “Frames to Video,” creates seamless transitions between a starting and ending image, complete with matching audio. The “Scene Extension” tool extends the last second of a clip by up to a minute, automatically generating additional visuals and audio to match the original style.

Google says Veo 3.1 will cost the same as its predecessor and is currently available as part of a paid preview through the Gemini API and within the Gemini app.
