Google has added a new safety feature to its Messages app that will automatically blur images containing nudity.
The feature is called Sensitive Content Warnings and is designed to protect users from seeing explicit images without warning.
The app can detect these images on your phone itself, meaning the pictures are not sent to Google’s servers. When a nude image is found, it appears blurred with a warning message. You can then choose to view it, delete it, or block the sender.
If you try to send or forward a nude photo, the app will also show a warning before it is sent. This helps prevent accidental or unwanted sharing.
For teenagers aged 13 to 17, the feature is turned on by default, but they can choose to switch it off. For children managed through Google’s Family Link, it cannot be turned off. Adults need to enable it manually in the settings.
