Google has officially rolled out its new desktop search app for Windows users, expanding access to a tool that feels similar to macOS’s Spotlight.

After testing it last year, the app is now available globally in English and can be downloaded directly from Google’s website for devices running Windows 10 or newer.

The app is designed to make searching faster and more seamless. With a simple Alt + Space shortcut, users can open the search bar and instantly look up web results, files stored on their computer, or content from Google Drive. As you type, the interface lets you switch between different views like All, Images, and an AI Mode, giving you more ways to explore results.

It also includes features that go beyond basic search. Users can interact with what’s on their screen by using Google Lens or even sharing their screen to ask questions related to what they are viewing.

There is no confirmation yet on whether the app will be available for macOS or Linux. Google has not responded to requests for more details, though reports suggest the company is testing a Gemini app for macOS, which could put it in competition with AI tools like Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
