Apple is reportedly preparing a major upgrade to Siri that will transform the voice assistant into a full AI chatbot, similar to tools like ChatGPT.
According to a report from Bloomberg, the new version of Siri is expected to launch later this year and will be built directly into the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
The updated Siri will reportedly replace the current interface and allow users to interact more naturally by both typing and speaking. Instead of simple voice commands, users will be able to have longer, more conversational interactions, much like modern AI chatbots. This change is expected to make Siri feel more flexible and useful for everyday tasks, questions, and assistance.
This chatbot-style Siri is said to be separate from the AI-powered personalization features Apple plans to roll out in the coming months. While both versions rely on artificial intelligence, the chatbot version is expected to be far more advanced. Reports suggest it will use a customized AI model from Google, based on Google’s Gemini technology, as part of the long-term partnership announced earlier this year. Bloomberg notes that this version of Siri will significantly outperform the upcoming personalization updates.
Apple is expected to officially reveal the new Siri during its Worldwide Developers Conference in June. The project is reportedly codenamed Campos and is planned to launch publicly in September. It is expected to be the main new feature in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, while other system updates will focus mainly on performance and stability improvements.
