YouTube is rolling out a change that could shift how people share videos from its mobile app.
Users can now share videos starting from a specific timestamp, making it much easier to direct someone to a particular moment without needing extra steps. This update simplifies sharing on phones, especially when you want to highlight a specific part of a longer video.
At the same time, this new option is replacing the existing Clips feature, which allowed users to create short, shareable segments from videos. While any clips that have already been created will still be available to watch, users will no longer be able to make new ones going forward. YouTube also says that features like setting an end time or adding a custom description while sharing will no longer be supported.
The company explained that clipping has been an important way for creators to reach new audiences, but it also pointed out that there are now several third-party tools offering more advanced clipping options. These tools, along with authorized creator programs, are available across different video platforms and provide similar or expanded functionality.
YouTube first introduced the Clips feature back in 2021, and this latest change marks a shift toward simpler, built-in sharing options within the mobile app.
