Threads is finally expanding its direct messaging feature to the desktop version, bringing it closer to a full social platform experience on the web.
A new Messages tab has appeared in a preview of the redesigned web layout, which was shared by Threads head Connor Hayes on Thursday, as reported by Engadget. The addition suggests that users will soon be able to access and send DMs without needing to switch to their phones.

Direct messages first arrived on Threads in 2025, but the feature was limited to Android and iOS apps at the time. This left desktop users without a built-in way to chat privately, even as the platform continued to grow.
According to Hayes, the Messages tab will begin rolling out to users on the web version over the coming weeks, signaling a gradual expansion of the feature to more devices.
