Former U.S. President Donald Trump said he is open to delaying the TikTok ban again if a deal to sell the app’s U.S. operations isn’t made by the June 19 deadline.
In an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Trump said he has “a little warm spot” for TikTok and would consider giving the company more time. This would be the third delay since a law was passed last year that bans TikTok if its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, doesn’t sell it to American owners.
TikTok was briefly banned when the law took effect in January, but Trump gave the company 90 more days to work on a sale. In April, he gave another 75-day extension, blaming tensions with China and its approval process for the delay.
Trump said he still wants TikTok to have some U.S. ownership, possibly through a joint venture, but also admitted that the Chinese government is not happy about U.S. trade policies.
