At least 18 people have been killed and 256 others injured during large-scale protests led by Gen-Z youths across Nepal, according to the Ministry of Health.
The demonstrations erupted on Monday in Kathmandu and other districts, sparked by anger over the internet shutdown and dissatisfaction with the ruling system.
Authorities confirmed that 16 deaths occurred in Kathmandu, while others were reported from districts outside the Valley. Despite a government-imposed curfew, protesters continued to fill the streets. Tensions escalated sharply in the Baneshwor area, where demonstrators tried to enter the Federal Parliament building and security forces responded with excessive force. Clashes have also spread to Pokhara, Jhapa, Morang, and Itahari, among other regions.

The Ministry of Health reported that three deaths occurred at Civil Hospital, where more than 100 injured are being treated. Eight deaths were confirmed at Trauma Center, with 49 others receiving treatment under a disaster plan. Everest Hospital reported three deaths and 34 injuries, while Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) confirmed two deaths and 32 injured patients, six of whom require surgery. Additional casualties and treatments have been reported at Bir Hospital, Patan Academy of Health Sciences, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, and Norvic International Hospital.
Outside Kathmandu, Gandaki Hospital and Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences are treating the injured, while Damak in Jhapa has seven patients under care. In Itahari, two protesters were killed after being shot by police, further fueling public outrage.
The rising death toll and widespread unrest highlight the severity of the crisis, with hospitals overwhelmed and security forces struggling to contain the demonstrations.
