Microsoft has started testing a new feature called Gamepad Cursor that brings a virtual mouse experience to Windows-based handheld devices using Xbox mode.

This update allows users to turn the left stick on devices like the Xbox Ally X into a mouse, making it easier to navigate apps and menus that aren’t built for controllers.

While Asus already offers a similar cursor through its Armory Crate software, Microsoft’s version is built directly into Xbox mode on Windows 11. It can be quickly turned on through the Game Bar, so users don’t need to rely on additional software to access it. Once enabled, the feature lets the left stick move the cursor across the screen, offering more precise control when needed.

The right stick is used for vertical scrolling, while the A button works as a click input. This setup is especially helpful when using apps that don’t support controller navigation or when dealing with certain parts of PC games, like login screens, where traditional controller input doesn’t always work smoothly.

Microsoft is currently rolling out this feature to Xbox Insiders for testing. Users who want early access can join the program through the Xbox Insider Hub instead of waiting for the wider release on Windows 11.
