Microsoft is working to resolve an issue in the new Outlook client that prevents some users from opening Excel files attached to emails.

The issue has been affecting Exchange Online customers since at least November 23, according to a service alert seen by BleepingComputer. Users encountering the problem see a message telling them to “Try opening the file again later.”

The company states that it has already developed a fix and begun deploying it, but not everyone has received the update yet. Microsoft explained that the bug is caused by an encoding error in Excel file names, especially when the attachment contains non-ASCII characters.

This means anyone trying to open an Excel file with certain special characters in its name may be blocked from accessing it in the new Outlook.
