Instagram is adding several new features to its direct messaging (DM) system, making it more functional and versatile.
One of the biggest updates is the ability to schedule direct messages up to 29 days in advance, allowing users to prewrite messages and send them later. Additionally, Instagram now lets users pin up to three messages at the top of a chat for easy access.
According to Meta, these changes aim to improve communication across different time zones and help users keep important messages visible—especially in busy group chats where content can get lost. Other notable updates include QR code-based group chat invitations and real-time message translation, which supports 99 languages. Users can now translate individual messages directly within the chat, making cross-language conversations more seamless.
Another exciting addition is native music sharing within DMs. This feature enables users to listen to the same song together or share music asynchronously without leaving the app. The music search option is now available in the same menu as stickers and GIFs, further enhancing the in-app experience.
Music sharing will also be available in Instagram’s broadcast channels—one-way messaging spaces for creators to engage with followers. While it’s unclear if other new DM features will be integrated into these channels, all updates are rolling out globally starting today.
