Google is giving users the option to remove visible watermarks from images, videos, and music created with its AI tools. The company has introduced a new “Media watermark” setting in Gemini and its AI video generator, Flow.

When the setting is turned off, the visible sparkle-shaped watermark that normally appears in the bottom-right corner of AI-generated content will be removed. The watermark is used on content created with Google’s Nano Banana and Omni models.

However, turning off the visible watermark does not mean the AI-generated content will become completely unmarked. Google says it will continue adding invisible SynthID watermarks and C2PA metadata in the background.

According to Josh Woodward, Google’s vice president of Google Labs, Gemini, and AI Studio, these invisible markers will remain attached to AI-generated content even when users remove the visible watermark.

The hidden markers are designed to help identify whether content was created using AI. Users will also be able to check for these markers by asking Gemini or Google Search whether an image or other media was generated by AI.

The new “Media watermark” option is available through Gemini’s settings menu, giving users control over whether the visible watermark appears on their generated content.
