Google is expanding its digital ID pass feature to more countries in Europe. Starting this summer, users in Ireland, Spain, France, Italy, and Estonia will be able to scan their passports and create a digital ID pass inside the Google Wallet app.
The feature will work differently from Google’s ID passes in the United States. In the EU, users will not be able to use these digital passes for travel. Instead, the passes are designed mainly for online identity checks, including age verification.
The move comes as more countries and online platforms introduce stricter age verification rules. Digital ID passes could make it easier for users to prove their age online without repeatedly sharing full passport details with different services.
Google Wallet already supports several digital cards and passes, and this update adds another identity-related feature for European users. The rollout will begin this summer in the five selected EU countries.
