Google is expanding its AI-powered Search experience by allowing AI Mode to deliver more personalized responses using data from Gmail and Google Photos.

The feature, called Personal Intelligence, aims to tailor search results based on users’ real-life habits, interests, and past activity.

Previously launched for Google Gemini, Personal Intelligence now enhances AI Mode by automatically analyzing emails and photos instead of relying on manually set preferences. Google says this enables more relevant suggestions, such as building travel itineraries from hotel bookings found in Gmail or recommending ice cream shops based on frequent food photos.

The personalization also extends to shopping searches. AI Mode can prioritize products from brands users have worn or purchased before, helping surface more relevant recommendations. Eligible Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers can opt in to connect Gmail and Photos starting today, with the rollout currently limited to the US through Google Labs and available only on personal Google accounts.

Addressing privacy concerns, Google Search VP Robby Stein said AI Mode uses the company’s Gemini 3 model and does not directly train on Gmail inboxes or Photos libraries. While Google acknowledges that errors may occur, users can correct responses, give feedback, or downvote unsuitable recommendations to help improve the system over time.
