Microsoft has released Windows App Development CLI, also known as winapp, in public preview, introducing a new command-line utility designed to simplify app development on Windows.
The open-source tool is aimed at Windows app developers who work across multiple frameworks and toolchains. According to Microsoft, winapp helps streamline common development tasks, making it easier to build, manage, and maintain apps targeting the Windows platform.
Microsoft says winapp is especially useful for developers who want to take advantage of native Windows features or are specifically targeting Windows users, regardless of the frameworks they prefer. The company positions the tool as a unifying layer that reduces friction in modern Windows app development.
