Firefox is preparing to bring a new AI-powered browsing experience to its users, adding another entry to the growing list of browsers that are experimenting with artificial intelligence.
Mozilla, the company behind Firefox, says it is developing a feature called AI Window that combines an AI assistant with a chatbot in a single place. The company describes it as an optional space that puts the user in control and is being built openly with feedback from the community.
Earlier in September, Firefox rolled out a feature on iPhone that lets you shake your device to see an instant summary of any webpage. It uses AI to break down long pages into quick, readable highlights. Mozilla continues to present itself as a privacy-focused company that lets people choose how much AI they want to use while browsing.
In a post on its official blog, Mozilla wrote that its vision for AI is different from other companies. According to the team, many AI tools try to keep users stuck in long conversations, while Firefox wants AI to act as a helpful guide that supports the user and encourages them to explore the wider internet.
AI Window will sit alongside the two existing browsing modes in Firefox, which are the private window and the classic window. In a recent note shared on the Mozilla Connect forum, the company said users will be able to select the AI model they prefer when using AI Window, but other details are still limited. Anyone who wants updates about the new feature can sign up for Mozilla’s waitlist.
