YouTube is rolling out a much-requested update that will let viewers dismiss the pop-up recommendations that appear at the end of videos.

Starting now, users will see a new “hide” button in the top-right corner of a video, allowing them to finish watching without distractions.

The change comes after repeated feedback from viewers who found end screens disruptive, especially when they cover the last few seconds of a video. With this update, users can choose to hide the end screen on a per-video basis. If you want to bring it back, simply tap the “show” button.

YouTube says testing showed only a 1.5% decrease in views coming from end screen clickthroughs, suggesting the feature won’t have a major impact on creators’ engagement. End screens and watermarks can still be added as usual.

Alongside this change, YouTube is also removing the “subscribe” button that appears when hovering over a channel watermark on desktop. The platform says this is meant to simplify the viewing experience, since the main subscribe button already sits just below the video player.

These updates focus on making YouTube less cluttered and more user-friendly, while still preserving creator tools and features.
