Instagram has officially crossed a new milestone with 3 billion monthly active users, according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

The achievement comes nearly four years after the platform hit 2 billion users in December 2021, showing steady growth as it catches up with other Meta-owned services.

Earlier this year, Meta also announced similar milestones for its other platforms — Facebook passed 3 billion users in January and WhatsApp hit 3 billion in April. With Instagram now joining the list, Meta continues to dominate the global social media space.

According to a Bloomberg report, Instagram’s growth is largely fueled by private messaging and Reels, its short-form video feature designed to compete with TikTok. Instagram head Adam Mosseri revealed that the app will soon introduce changes to make DMs and Reels easier to access from the home screen. The company is also rolling out a new algorithm update that gives users more control over the topics they see in their feeds.
