Microsoft has updated the Xbox app for Windows on ARM, allowing users to download and play ARM-compatible games locally for the first time.

Previously, gamers using ARM-based devices, such as the latest Surface models with Qualcomm processors, could only play through Xbox Cloud Gaming.

The feature, now available for Windows Insiders, supports select titles from PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Microsoft says more games will be added over time as the Windows and Xbox teams work to expand compatibility and enhance support for ARM-based devices.

A native ARM64 version of the Xbox app has been available since 2022, but its usefulness was limited due to a lack of compatible games. This update marks a significant shift, giving ARM users a smoother experience with better performance and reduced reliance on internet connectivity.
