X (formerly Twitter) now allows select creators to upload videos in 4K resolution, aiming to increase user engagement and reduce the need to turn to platforms like YouTube or Vimeo.

The feature is expected to roll out to all premium subscribers soon, according to a post by X’s engineering team.

Previously, premium users could upload videos at 1080p, with a file size limit of 8GB and a maximum length of around three hours. The introduction of 4K uploads may prompt the platform to revise these limits.

Since Elon Musk acquired the platform, X has steadily expanded video capabilities to encourage more content creation.

Earlier this year, it introduced a dedicated vertical video feed with a homepage shortcut in its mobile apps, seeking to capitalize on the uncertainty surrounding a potential TikTok ban in the U.S.
