U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a new executive order that pushes back the enforcement of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act — the law aimed at banning TikTok in the U.S. The delay lasts until December 16, 2025.

During this time, the Department of Justice (DOJ) cannot take action against TikTok or similar apps, including blocking updates, maintenance, or distribution. The order also makes clear that no company will face penalties for anything done before or during this pause period.

Trump’s order directs the Attorney General to send letters to app providers confirming that they are not in violation of the law. It also emphasizes that only the federal government — not states or private parties — has the power to enforce the Act.

This is the third delay to the TikTok ban deadline, following extensions in April and June 2025. The move once again leaves the future of TikTok in the U.S. uncertain, as lawmakers continue to debate how to handle security concerns around the popular app.
