Truecaller has introduced a new feature that allows one person to become the admin of a family group and help protect other members from potential scam calls.
The feature gives the admin the ability to receive alerts about suspected fraud calls received by other members and even end a call remotely if they believe someone might be getting scammed.
The caller identification platform, which has more than 450 million users globally, first launched the feature in December in a few countries, including Sweden, Chile, Malaysia, and Kenya. After seeing positive early results, the company has now expanded the feature worldwide, including in India, its largest market. The feature is available for free and does not require a paid Truecaller subscription.
Using the feature, a tech-savvy family member can create a group of up to five people and act as the admin. Once members join the group, the admin will receive alerts when those members receive calls that are flagged as potential fraud. If the admin believes the call may be harmful, they can remotely disconnect the call. However, this call-ending feature currently works only for Android devices, although alerts are supported on both Android and iOS.
On Android, group members can also allow the admin to see certain real-time phone information, such as whether the user is walking or driving, the device’s battery level, and the phone’s sound settings. This can help admins check on elderly family members and avoid calling them when they are busy or in situations where answering might be unsafe.
Admins can also block specific phone numbers or international calling codes for the group and share a common blocklist with all members. Truecaller emphasized that the admin cannot see members’ normal call history or SMS messages, which helps maintain user privacy.
According to Kunal Dua, Truecaller’s Chief Product Officer, the feature is designed to address the growing problem of phone scams that affect many families. He noted that most people know someone who has been targeted or harmed by fraud calls, which is why the company wants to provide better protection tools.
Truecaller is also exploring ways to use artificial intelligence to strengthen the feature in the future. The company is considering using AI to analyze suspicious calls and alert the admin about the type of scam a family member may be facing. Another idea under development is automatically disconnecting calls if certain words commonly used in scams are detected.
Fraud calls have become a major issue in markets like India. Truecaller said it detected more than 7.7 billion fraud calls last year. Authorities in India have also introduced several initiatives to tackle the problem, including a policy called Caller Name Presentation that displays the name of the caller as registered with their telecom provider.
Despite launching new features, Truecaller is facing several challenges. The company’s stock price has dropped more than 80 percent over the past year. In its Q4 2025 financial report, Truecaller revealed that its operating profitability fell sharply, with EBITDA declining 49 percent year over year and advertising revenue dropping 31 percent.

Truecaller CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala said the company continues to focus on building a stronger product even as India gradually rolls out its Caller Name Presentation system. He added that users can still choose to use both systems together, as Truecaller provides additional information and context beyond simply showing the caller’s name.
