Google has announced that Chrome will officially arrive on ARM64 Linux devices in the second quarter of 2026.
Until now, users could run Chrome on Linux or on ARM devices separately, but not both together on ARM-based Linux machines.
The company previously released Chrome versions for ARM Macs in 2020 and for Windows on ARM in 2024. Bringing the browser to ARM64 Linux now fills a gap that developers and advanced users have been waiting for.
Google says the decision comes from growing demand for a browsing experience that combines the open source Chromium platform with Google’s full ecosystem of apps and services. However, it is still unclear whether the demand comes from current Linux ARM users or from upcoming devices that will rely on ARM processors.
At the moment, most consumer Linux laptops still run on traditional x86 processors from Intel or AMD. Devices from brands like Dell, Lenovo, and Framework typically ship with those chips. ARM-based Linux machines are still relatively rare in the consumer market.
That could change soon as major chip companies push ARM processors into the laptop space. Qualcomm has already said it sees strong interest in operating systems beyond Windows for its ARM-based PC chips. NVIDIA is also expected to reveal new ARM laptop processors called N1 and N1X at its GTC 2026 developer conference.
Even if those laptops launch with Windows, many observers believe Linux versions could follow once key software support becomes available. Google’s move to bring Chrome to ARM Linux could help prepare the ecosystem for that shift.

Google also mentioned Nvidia’s DGX Spark systems as an early target for the new browser version. These powerful micro AI desktops run Linux on ARM and can cost more than four thousand dollars. Chrome will be added directly to Nvidia’s package manager for easier installation, while other users will be able to download it from the Chrome website once the release arrives in Q2 2026.
