Google has introduced Playground, a new browser-based platform that lets people create custom games using AI prompts without needing coding experience.

The experimental platform is available in the US starting October 7 for users aged 18 and older through playground.google.

Google says Playground is designed to make game creation more accessible by allowing users to describe what they want to build through a conversational interface. Users can start with a blank canvas, remix starter prompts, or use guided assistance to develop an idea and immediately test the result.

The platform also allows creators to make changes simply by describing them. Users can ask Playground to adjust physics, change game rules, customize characters, or redesign environments while maintaining control over the creative direction of the project.

Once a game is completed, creators can share it through a link or publish it to the Playground Explore gallery, where other users can discover and play their creations. Google says selected genres will also support features such as leaderboards and multiplayer, while ratings and player activity will help highlight games that are considered fresh, creative, and fun.

Playground is free to use, although Google One subscribers will receive higher weekly token limits depending on their subscription plan. Google says the platform is powered by its existing AI foundation models, including Gemini, Nano Banana, and Lyria, combined with a custom system developed using internally created games and evaluations.

Google is also working with Unity as part of the new gaming initiative, highlighting a broader push to make game development more accessible through AI.
