Spotify is introducing new managed accounts designed to give parents more control over what their children listen to.

After testing the feature last year, Spotify is now officially launching it for Premium Family subscribers in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, and the Netherlands.

These managed accounts allow parents to create a safe, music-only experience for kids under 13. With this update, parents can filter out explicit songs, block specific artists, and disable the videos that sometimes appear with tracks. Spotify has also restricted certain features—such as messaging other users or accessing age-gated content—to ensure a child-friendly experience within the main Spotify app.

Unlike the separate Spotify Kids app, managed accounts let children use the regular Spotify app, but with parental control in place. Kids can still add songs to favorites, make playlists, and get personalized recommendations based on their listening habits. Their activity won’t affect the parent’s main account, so your Discover Weekly or Wrapped won’t be filled with your child’s favorite cartoon soundtracks.

Managed accounts are available only through the Premium Family plan, which offers six individual Premium accounts for $19.99 per month for members living at the same address. To create a managed account, simply go to your account page, select “Add a Member,” and then choose “Add a listener aged under 13.”

This update gives families a simple way to share Spotify while keeping kids’ listening experiences safe and separate.
