Patreon has announced another round of layoffs, cutting around 20 percent of its workforce, which affects approximately 93 employees.

The move comes as the company adjusts to what CEO Jack Conte describes as a major shift in how technology companies operate in the age of artificial intelligence.

In a message shared with employees, Conte said the layoffs are not happening because AI is replacing people. Instead, he explained that artificial intelligence has fundamentally changed the tech industry by transforming how companies build products, communicate, and carry out everyday work. According to Conte, those changes have forced Patreon to rethink how it is organized and operated.

Despite the job cuts, Patreon is continuing to invest heavily in AI. During an interview last month, Conte said the company is fully embracing AI tools across its product and engineering teams. He warned that if Patreon failed to adopt AI and use it to empower creators, the company could struggle to survive over the next few years.

Conte emphasized that Patreon sees AI as a tool to improve its platform rather than a replacement for employees. However, the company’s restructuring reflects how rapidly AI is changing the way technology businesses allocate resources and develop products.

This is not the first major workforce reduction at Patreon. The company laid off 17 percent of its employees in 2022 and also shut down its offices in Dublin and Berlin as part of earlier cost-cutting efforts. The latest layoffs mark another significant restructuring as Patreon continues adapting to an AI-driven technology landscape.
