Anthropic has introduced a major update to Claude’s voice mode, expanding it beyond the lightweight Haiku model and giving users the option to choose between the Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku AI models.
Claude’s voice mode first launched last year using the Haiku model, offering fast responses but limited capabilities for more demanding conversations. With the latest update, Claude now automatically uses the last AI model selected in a text conversation and switches to its fastest available version for voice interactions, creating a more seamless experience across chat and voice.
Anthropic says the improved voice mode is designed for longer and more productive conversations. Users can practice client presentations, receive feedback on their communication style, brainstorm product ideas, or work through complex discussions using more capable AI models.
One of the biggest additions is support for connected apps. Claude’s voice mode can now interact with services such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, Canva, and Notion. Users can ask the assistant to update calendar events, draft emails, create documents in Notion, or complete other productivity tasks using simple voice commands.
This gives Claude an advantage over OpenAI’s current ChatGPT voice mode, which recently received improvements to make conversations sound more natural but still cannot perform tasks across multiple third-party apps in the same way.
Anthropic has also expanded language support for Claude Voice. Users can now hold conversations in English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, and Spanish. However, the language must currently be selected manually before starting a conversation.
The updated voice mode is rolling out in beta to users across all supported platforms. Free users will be limited to the Haiku model and can connect only one external app, while paid subscribers can access the more advanced Opus and Sonnet models along with broader app integrations.
Although Anthropic has expanded Claude’s capabilities, the company has not introduced a new voice model or revealed the underlying technology powering the experience. As a result, users should not expect improvements such as more natural interruptions or conversational flow similar to the latest updates introduced in ChatGPT Voice.
