Opera has unveiled its latest innovation, Opera Neon, an AI-first “agentic browser” designed to revolutionize how users interact with the internet.

Unlike traditional browsers, Neon promises to perform tasks on users’ behalf using AI agents with contextual awareness, from generating code and designing websites to booking events and conducting research.

“We’re at a point where AI can fundamentally change the way we use the internet,” said Henrik Lexow, Opera’s Senior AI Product Director. “Opera Neon brings this to our users’ fingertips.”

Neon stands out with its cloud-based AI engine that can understand user requests and autonomously create games, reports, and even entire websites. It can potentially continue working even when users are offline. The browser also integrates AI tools similar to Microsoft Copilot and OpenAI’s Operator, enabling chatbot-style web searches and contextual webpage analysis.

While Opera is marketing Neon as a premium subscription product, the company hasn’t disclosed a release date or pricing details. The browser includes an upgraded version of the “Browser Operator”, a feature first introduced in March that automates tasks like online shopping, form-filling, and event booking, all processed locally for enhanced privacy.

Neon will become the fifth browser in Opera’s lineup, following the launch of its mindfulness-focused Opera Air in February. Users interested in trying out Opera Neon can sign up for the waitlist here.
