Microsoft has started warning users that its Authenticator app will stop supporting password autofill features starting July 2025, urging users to switch to Microsoft Edge or export their passwords before the deadline.

The Microsoft Authenticator app, widely used for multi-factor authentication (MFA) through push notifications, TOTP codes, and password-less logins, has been supporting password autofill capabilities. However, the app now displays a full-screen banner notifying users about the upcoming deprecation, reading:

“Autofill via Authenticator ends in July 2025.”

According to Microsoft, new passwords can no longer be saved starting June 2025, and autofill functionality will stop working in July 2025. By August 2025, all saved passwords will become inaccessible in the app. Users are advised to export their passwords before July 1 or begin using Microsoft Edge, which offers integrated support for password and address autofill synced through the Microsoft Account.

For those not interested in switching to Edge, passwords can be exported from the Authenticator app as a CSV file and imported into other password managers.

Microsoft emphasizes that generated password histories will not be saved automatically and must be manually added to saved passwords if users wish to keep them.
