It’s hard to believe, but Windows 10 was released exactly 10 years ago today.
When Microsoft first launched it back in 2015, the company introduced a new approach called “Windows as a service.” Instead of waiting several years between major versions, Microsoft planned to deliver regular updates to keep the OS fresh and secure.
At the time, one Microsoft employee famously called Windows 10 “the last version of Windows,” hinting that the company would simply keep updating it forever. But that didn’t last. Microsoft eventually released Windows 11 and has continued with the same service-based update model.
Even a decade later, Windows 10 remains incredibly popular. But time is running out. Microsoft is now encouraging users to make the switch to Windows 11 as Windows 10 approaches its official end of support this October.
