WhatsApp is testing a new feature that would let users sign out of the app without deleting their account or losing their data.
This option, spotted in the beta version 2.25.17.37 by Android Authority, appears as a “Logout [internal]” button and could be helpful for users who want a break from messaging or need to switch accounts on a single device.
Right now, the only way to log out of WhatsApp on mobile is to either uninstall the app on iOS or clear the app data through settings on Android. That’s not very convenient. In contrast, logging out from the web or desktop version is much simpler, with a clear log-out button under your profile.
The new logout option will appear in the user settings, just below the button to delete your account. When logging out, users will be able to choose between two options: “Erase all Data & preferences” or “Keep all Data & preferences.” The first option deletes everything, while the second keeps your settings and data safe so you can return later and pick up where you left off.

This feature could be especially useful for people who want a short break from WhatsApp or for users with a single SIM who need to switch between accounts. Since it’s still marked as an “internal” feature, it’s in development and might change before it becomes available publicly.
It’s not yet clear when this option will be officially released or whether it will come to both Android and iOS. Meta hasn’t shared any details yet.
