OpenAI has expanded its GPT-6 lineup with two new models designed to deliver advanced AI capabilities at a lower cost.
The company announced GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna on Tuesday, with both models priced at around half the promotional rates of their predecessors.
The launch comes shortly after OpenAI introduced GPT-6 Astra, a faster and more capable model designed to handle a wider range of tasks than earlier versions. Sol and Luna are positioned as more affordable options for users who need AI for professional work, coding, automation and computer-use tasks.
GPT-6 Sol will cost $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. That represents a 50% reduction compared with the promotional pricing of GPT-5.6 Sol. GPT-6 Luna is priced much lower, at $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens.
OpenAI said Sol and Luna were trained using methods similar to those used for Astra, with improvements in reasoning, factual reliability, coding, computer use, and alignment.
The company said improvements in caching and inference have helped reduce the cost of running the new models, allowing it to pass those savings on to users and customers.
Astra will remain OpenAI’s most capable model for demanding projects, while Sol and Luna are aimed at providing a more affordable way to access advanced AI capabilities.
