The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has ordered a nationwide ban on the Telegram app.
In a notice issued on Tuesday, the authority instructed all internet service providers (ISPs) in the country to immediately block access to Telegram.
According to the notice, the number of online scams conducted through the Telegram platform has been increasing rapidly. The authority stated, “It has come to our attention that the Telegram app is being used in serious crimes, including money laundering. Therefore, all telecom and internet service providers are hereby directed to restrict and block access to the app.”

The NTA’s move comes amid growing complaints that Telegram is being used for fraudulent activities, including fake cryptocurrency schemes, online betting, identity fraud, and the circulation of counterfeit documents.
Previously, countries like India, Iran, and Russia have also taken steps to restrict or ban Telegram over similar concerns.
