Microsoft has officially removed its long-standing Support and Recovery Assistant, better known as SaRA, from all supported Windows versions as of March 10.
SaRA was designed as a scriptable utility that could run automated tests to identify problems and either fix them directly, guide users through manual solutions, or connect them with Microsoft support. It worked across multiple Windows versions, from Windows 7 through Windows 11, and became a handy option for both everyday users and IT administrators managing large environments.
Now Microsoft is urging organizations to transition to a newer solution called Get Help, specifically its command-line version, GetHelpCmd.exe. According to the company, this tool offers similar diagnostic capabilities but runs on a more secure infrastructure, which is a key reason behind SaRA’s retirement.
IT admins can still run it via command line or automate it through scripts like PowerShell, making it suitable for remote troubleshooting across multiple devices.
