Microsoft has released a fix for a known bug in Windows 11 24H2 that caused invalid Windows Firewall error messages to appear after a system reboot.

The issue affected users who installed the June 2025 preview update, triggering false warnings in Event Viewer.

The fix is now available via the KB5062660 preview cumulative update, released on Tuesday, and will be generally available to all users during August Patch Tuesday.

The bug, first acknowledged on July 3, caused Event 2042 errors to appear in Event Viewer under Windows Firewall with Advanced Security, displaying messages like “Config Read Failed” and “More data is available.” Microsoft clarified these were non-impacting logs tied to a new, under-development feature, and advised users to ignore them.

Microsoft had mistakenly marked the issue as resolved earlier this month before issuing an apology on July 8, confirming that a proper fix was still in progress.

This is just the latest in a string of recent Windows glitches. In April 2025, Microsoft also addressed a 0x80070643 error tied to Windows Recovery Environment updates, and resolved a BitLocker bug that incorrectly flagged encryption issues on managed Windows 10 and 11 systems.
