MathWorks, the company that develops popular software such as MATLAB and Simulink, has been targeted by a ransomware attack.

This cyberattack occurred on Sunday, May 18, and affected many of their systems.

In a message on their website, MathWorks said that some of their online tools for customers stopped working, and staff couldn’t access some internal systems. They have informed federal law enforcement about the attack.

Some services are now back online. For example, on May 21, users could once again use multi-factor login (MFA) and Single Sign-On (SSO). But there are still problems:

  • Some users can’t create new accounts
  • Others can’t log in if they haven’t signed in since October 11, 2024

MathWorks hasn’t said who was behind the attack or if any customer data was stolen. No ransomware group has claimed responsibility yet, which might mean the company is still talking to the attackers or may have paid a ransom quietly.

So far, MathWorks has not shared more details, and their spokesperson hasn’t responded to questions.
