Apple has released its latest iOS 26.3 update, introducing a smoother way for users to switch from an iPhone to an Android device.
As first reported by 9to5Mac, the updated transfer process lets users move apps, photos, messages, and even their phone number simply by placing the two phones next to each other.
Previously, switching platforms usually required downloading separate data transfer apps from Apple and Google or manually copying files and reinstalling apps. With iOS 26.3, Apple aims to reduce that friction and make it easier for users who decide to move away from the iPhone ecosystem.
The update also brings an important change for iPhone users in the European Union. iOS 26.3 introduces notification forwarding for third-party wearables, allowing users to see full notification contents and choose which apps can send alerts to non-Apple smartwatches. This makes the experience closer to what users get with an Apple Watch and improves compatibility with other wearable brands.
These improvements are part of Apple’s efforts to meet the requirements of the Digital Markets Act, which pushes large tech companies to improve interoperability and reduce ecosystem lock-in. Notification support for third-party wearables was one of the key expectations under the regulation.
To install iOS 26.3, users can open the Settings app on their iPhone, go to General, and then tap Software Update. If the update does not appear, Apple recommends checking whether the device supports iOS 26 before trying again.
