Google is bringing Search Live into its AI Mode, enabling users to have real-time voice conversations with its Gemini-powered chatbot directly from the Google Search engine.
The feature is now available to Labs users in the U.S. via the Google app on Android and iOS.
Search Live allows for a natural back-and-forth exchange using your voice, with the AI responding audibly and presenting helpful web links during the conversation. Although camera-sharing isn’t supported yet, Google says the feature will be added in the coming months. In the Google app, you’ll soon be able to point your phone’s camera at an object and ask questions out loud—blending search, voice, and visual input in one experience.
To try it out, users need to opt into the AI Mode experiment in Google Labs, then tap the new “Live” icon in the app. You can ask a question like “How do I stop a linen dress from wrinkling in a suitcase?” and follow up with related questions in a continuous conversation.
Search Live also supports multitasking, running in the background even when you switch to other apps. A transcript feature lets users view and type responses, and all conversations are saved in the AI Mode history for future reference.
With this update, Google joins other AI leaders like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Apple in the race to bring voice-powered AI interactions to mainstream users.
