Google has announced several major gaming updates for Google Play during the Game Developers Conference 2026.
The new features aim to turn Google Play into a more complete gaming platform where players can try games before buying them, play across devices, and interact with other gamers in one place.
One of the biggest changes is the expansion of paid and indie games on Google Play. Over the next few months, the platform will add several anticipated titles such as Moonlight Peaks, Sledding Game, 9 Kings, Potion Craft, and Low Budget Repairs. These games will be playable on both mobile and PC through Google Play Games. Players will also be able to sync their progress across devices using their Gamer Profile.
Google is also introducing game trials. This feature will allow players to test certain paid games before deciding whether to buy them. If they choose to purchase the game after trying it, they can continue from where they left off during the trial. The feature will launch first on select mobile games and later expand to Google Play Games on PC.
Another major update is the “buy once, play anywhere” pricing model. With this system, players who purchase a game will get access to both the mobile and PC versions with a single payment. This feature will initially be available on select paid games, including the Reigns series, OTTTD, and Dungeon Clawler.
For PC players, Google is adding a dedicated PC section inside the Games tab of the Play Store. This new section will highlight games optimized for Windows PCs. Users will also be able to add games to a wishlist and receive notifications when those titles go on sale.
Google is also focusing on community interaction. A new Community Posts feature will allow players to ask questions and discuss games directly within Google Play. The company hopes gamers will use this feature to talk about games inside the app instead of moving to other platforms such as Reddit. Community Posts is currently available in English for selected popular games, with more languages and titles expected to be added later.
