Google is rolling out a major update for iPhone users on its Google Fi network, shifting voicemail access from the Fi app to the iPhone’s native Phone app.
The rollout began on Tuesday and is expected to be completed by July 2, according to a post by the Fi team in Google’s support forum.
Starting in August, Google will phase out voicemail support in the Google Fi app for iOS. Users who wish to retain their old voicemails are encouraged to download them using Google Takeout before August 13, as they will no longer be accessible through the Fi app after this date.
Previously, voicemails would only appear in the iPhone’s Phone app if Apple’s Live Voicemail feature was enabled and certain conditions were met. With this update, however, all Google Fi voicemails will now show up directly in the Phone app, streamlining the user experience.
This change was first hinted at in April, when Google also introduced a new Unlimited Essentials plan for $35/month, aimed at making Fi more affordable.
