Google has expanded access to its long-running flight simulator feature by bringing it directly to the web version of Google Earth, eliminating the need to download or install desktop software.

Originally introduced as a hidden feature in 2007, the flight simulator was previously available only through the desktop version of Google Earth. Users can now launch the experience directly from their web browser.

To access the simulator, visit the Google Earth website and click the “Explore Earth” button in the upper-right corner. Next, open the Tools menu and select “Flight Simulator,” which appears as the last option in the list.

For a more immersive experience, users should first search for a location they want to explore, as the simulator may initially load over an empty ocean area. Switching the basemap setting from “Map” to “Satellite” also provides more realistic visuals with detailed imagery.

Google has published a help page explaining the flight simulator’s keyboard and mouse controls. Although it is less advanced than dedicated simulation titles such as Microsoft Flight Simulator, the browser-based experience still takes some practice to master.

If players crash their aircraft, the simulator automatically pauses and offers the option to reset the plane to a safe altitude and continue flying.
