Adobe is adding new generative AI features to Acrobat that aim to save time for people who work with long documents.
With the latest update, users can now turn PDFs into podcast-style audio summaries, create presentations from documents, and even edit files using simple chat prompts. These features are available through Acrobat Studio, Adobe’s AI-powered document workspace that goes beyond basic PDF viewing.
One of the most interesting additions is a feature called Generate Podcast. It allows users to listen to summaries of documents instead of reading them. This works with many types of files, including meeting notes, interview transcripts, long reports, and study materials. The idea is to help users consume information while multitasking, such as during travel or breaks. For now, Adobe is using a GPT-based model from Microsoft for transcription and a voice model from Google to generate the audio, though Adobe says this setup could change in the future.
For users who prefer visual summaries, Acrobat Studio can also generate presentations directly from documents. By asking the built-in AI assistant, users can create a pitch deck that highlights specific points or insights from the source material. The feature uses design tools from Adobe Express, allowing users to choose a layout and automatically build slides, with the option to edit or refine the presentation afterward.
Adobe has also expanded its AI chat capabilities inside Acrobat. Users can now make edits to PDFs simply by describing what they want to change. This includes adding or removing pages, editing text, deleting images or comments, replacing words, and inserting signatures. Instead of manually adjusting each element, users can rely on conversational prompts to handle common document tasks more quickly.
